My name is Marie-Helene Smock Daniels. Six years ago I was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. I had a 4C grade III Astrocytoma in the basal ganglia which was pressing on the optic nerve and left me peripherally blind on the left side. My headaches were excruciating and I needed emergency treatment to cause my headaches to subside.

After my first brain operation (stereo-tacticbiopry) I was instructed to receive radiation treatment. Chemotherapy was not prescribed. I would receive the maximum (6,000 rads) of radiation for a period of seven weeks. This treatment, according to the oncologist, would buy me some time I was given two months to live but with radiation I had a 10% chance of survival past five years.

During this period of radiation "therapy" I met two very special doctors, a husband and wife team, who told me they could provide me support. They gaveme hope that their alternative treatment of acupuncture could boost my immune system. Dr. Chan, a very kindly Chinese gentleman, taught me many things about positive thinking and using relaxation techniques. He also very strategically placed needles to the pressure points that would alleviate my headaches and support me through the tonic effects of radiation.

Today, and for the past five years I have been tumor free and no longer experience those terrible headaches. Remembering the encouragement given to me by Dr. Chan all those years ago, that I would live a long life, given me faith that I do process a healing strength from with in mind over body. Thank you doctor Chan for all that you have given me. I am a six years brain cancer survivor and I'm going strong.
